Working with Pallavi on Learn to Bollywood- Volume One: Dhoom Taana has been a joy from start to finish. She has a serious devotion to being clear and thorough. Her generous spirit was felt by everyone and went a long way in keeping us all sane. The dance itself is truly joyous, and her explanations of the history and culture made me feel like I had stepped into a class on another continent.
Everyone at Learn To Bollywood wants to create dance and fitness routines that offer something unique- full choreographies, just like you see being offered in other dance styles; fitness combinations that are fun and make you forget you’re working out…
With these goals firmly established, everything falls into place as it should, and my job is the easiest of them all. I smile and nod as they sweat and laugh. I haven’t seen a performance yet that didn’t have audience members seeking the dancers out afterwards to tell them how much they enjoyed it, and ask where they can learn it.
I love that. This is for women of all ages, all shapes and all sizes. And it comes across that way. I’ve never heard anyone say, “Oh, I wish I had found this when I was ten…” You don’t have to be ten to begin this dance. And what’s better is that you can take it to any level you choose- fitness and fun or performance and serious technique.
You are never too old or too out of shape to start. You should, of course, clear things with your doctor if you have any health concerns, and listen to your body the entire time you dance. But how great, how completely AWESOME is it that we have the opportunity to discover something so uplifting and claim it as our own even when our twenties have faded from memory. Or our thirties. LOL
Take it home. Make it yours. Let the bhangra drums carry you away, and go ahead and laugh as you make the coy faces with the dance routine. That’s what it’s for.
Yours in Dance,
Terri
